Building Confidence & Inspiring Action: Kappa Delta & GOTR
In fall 2010, soon after Girls on the Run was founded in Louisiana, the Epsilon chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority hosted a sisterhood event painting inspirational bandanas for Girls on the Run participants. Current Executive Director, Carley Fuller was one of those members painting bandanas. The tradition of providing inspirational bandanas to girls at the 5K continues to this day.

The inspirational bandanas are a nod to the lessons on positive self-talk in the Girls on the Run curriculum. Girls get to pick a bandana before the 5K and wear the reminder on their forehead or around their arm. Volunteers paint bandanas throughout the year. These bandana painting events are a great opportunity to share the mission of Girls on the Run with community members and inspire others to engage in positive self-talk. And there’s nothing better than seeing a girl walk up to the string of bandanas on event day and pick out the “I Am Brave” or “Confident” bandana that you created!

Fast forward nearly 15 years, Kappa Delta members hosted another sisterhood event. This time, as a recipient of the KiDs Grant from Kappa Delta Foundation, members painted hundreds of inspirational bandanas in preparation for the 15th Anniversary Girls on the Run 5K in November 2024. Kappa Delta members will also be on the 5K course, providing cheer and encouragement to participants.
Kappa Delta is a sisterhood that builds confidence and inspires action. We’re grateful for the support of Kappa Delta members throughout the history of Girls on the Run South Louisiana as volunteers, coach mentors, donors, staff, and board members. We look forward to the legacy of this impact and the future of girls in our community.
